The spirits within us

Almost two weeks out from a long-awaited operation, I’m feeling a little reflective. And, in my case, reflection always leads to musing, which is in turn fertile ground for a new post.

So what do I mean by the above title? While going through the ups and downs of recovery, streams of imagery have popped into my head – admittedly some of it while my brain was addled by the after effects of anaesthesia – bringing forward what seemed to be different versions of myself. I have decided to label these ‘spirits’, parts of myself that exist, have yet to exist, have the potential to exist, or that may never exist. In my mind’s eye I hold:

The spirit of a mother

The spirit of a spiritual teacher

The spirit of a entrepreneur

The spirit of a community leader

The spirit of an Earth goddess

The spirit of a unifier

And so much more…

I don’t feel that the above are akin to daytime fantasies, more gentle threads that connect me to the Universal Miriam, the energetic form that holds infinite power to create and effect change. As a result I want to honour, rather than dismiss, these ‘spirits’, giving them the sacred status they deserve.
